the bridal shower

so MUCH has happened in these past two months that just beginning to think about where to start has overwhelmed me and hence the delay in posting.

these were by far the BEST two months of my life {so UN-expected ;)}

so starting with one my favorite pre-wedding events – the bridal shower

my sister, who’s pregnant and lives in san francisco planned the whole thing with the help of my cousin here in mumbai.

inspite of her pregnancy and inspite of a new job AND a new house. i really got lucky in that department.

the shower was perfect in every way. every single detail was taken care of with so much thought.

my family spent the greater part of the weekend decorating my mama’s hose in neon. the theme was – ‘neon and neutrals’ as if you know me you’d already know that i’m obsessed with all thing NEON.

all – the friends -  very enthusiastically followed the theme. thank god we decided to do away with the ‘best dressed award’ as i really wouldn’t know who to gift it to. so many innovative neon outfits.

^^ on the way to my ‘surprise’ bridal shower ;)^^

^^ the beautiful house {do you love the neon pom poms as much as i do? i want to decorate my house with them for always!}

^^ and then there was a hershey’s chocolate fountain^^

^^ and name customized mimosa glasses with the champagne shipped in all the way from frisco! {do you SEE the amount of planning?!}

^^ there were also neon party favours – cookies with A and my initials and wedding date inscribed in them with yummy icing – all homemade by my talented cousin Maitri ^^

^^ a neon note board! handmade by my sister and cousin {man don’t i have the best there is in the sister department?}

^^ a semi-neon macroon cake, once again homemade by Maitri ^^

^^ and the last thing neon  – gifts for the bridal shower game winners^^

^^ we played a really fun game of  ‘dress your team mate in toilet paper to make her look like a bride’ – can anyone guess who won?^^

^^ and thats just us having a great time^^

so much effort put in by everyone in the family. words cannot express my gratitude. the bridal shower really set the mood for the rest of the events that followed!

p.s. Maitri owns her very own bakery in Mumbai called Carousel – the bake about. you can check her out on facebook if you’d like to give her goodies a try.

spent MOST of the weekend with A.

at some point during the day, on Saturday, i may have randomly mentioned about how i was craving pancakes.

Sunday morning A said he had a surprise for me.

he drove us to Woodside Inn without telling me where we were heading and then once we got there he ordered THIS.

i love how he remembers all the silly demands i make from time to time and i love MORE how he makes such an effort to fulfill them!

can’t wait for these 2 months to pass by quickly, so we can spend ALL our morning together ;)

^^ we also tried the lemon ice tea and the watermelon + mint smoothie^^

^^ and the poached eggs on bread with bacon jam and potatoes ^^

^^ us, looking all BLUE ^^

although i am quite the travel buff, i had yet to explore east asia. i’ve never been to bangkok or thailand or anywhere else in that part of the world.

so a few weeks ago saloni and i were talking and we decided we should take a short vacation somewhere in east asia. at first we decided we’d go to vietnam and combodia. we almost booked the flight tickets. but then decided against it, as we were traveling solo.

we are both getting married later in the year and since she is shifting to the U.S. of A. post marriage {which sucks! i know…but that’s for a whole different post} we thought it would be a good idea to do a girls trip. just the two of us. and so Singapore happened! {we heard it was one of the safest countries in Asia and it sure did live up to its title}

a few interesting facts about our Singapore vacation:

1) the Quincy Hotel – a month before we were to leave, we debated for days about where to stay {partly out of excitement and partly out of boredom}. we finally shortlisted the Quincy Hotel by Far East Hospitality {she gave in to my insistence on staying there -i read about it on a travel blog} – the all – day free flowing dean and deluca refreshments really hit the spot with me. we paid a bit more than we wanted to. but in the end we were SO damn satisfied. i don’t think i would have had it any other way now that we are back in Mumbai. i also know saloni feels the same way {even though she might deny it}  last night {two weeks since we’ve been back}i got a message from her saying “i really miss quincy” she dint say she missed “singapore” she said she missed the Quincy ;) so there you have it. that’s what a really good hotel does for you.

^^ our hotel lobby. and the ever flowing food spread! so often we would want to get out to grab a bite but after seeing the spread at our hotel we would just end up eating there {also it helps that it was all on the house ;)}^^

^^ our hotel pool. we LOVED spending time on the floats watching a movie on the screen near the pool. they even had juices/ energy drinks/ chips stocked up near the pool for refueling ^^

2) the almost cancellation – a week before we were to leave, the managing partner at the law firm i work with informed me that i would have to cancel my vacation {#lifeofacorporatelawyer} due to an ongoing transaction. he said they would reimburse me for the costs incurred. it was all very disappointing. more for Saloni than i as she would have to cancel her bookings too {and for some reason all our bookings happened to be on a non-refundable basis} we found out we were going the day we were leaving i.e. Friday! so you could imagine our relief and my UN-preparedness. looking back i am so grateful for saloni. she took it all SO well. and was most co-operative the whole time.

3) ) universal studios – i have been to the universal studios in orlando and los angeles but honestly it never ceases to amaze me. it has to be the happiest place on earth and looking back most of my very favorite days all happen to be in amusement parks. no matter how old i get.

^^ mandatory universal pose! ^^

IMG_20150723_174008^^ this right here is what i love about universal studios. the food shops/ carts are so adorable^^

IMG_20150804_110121^^ posing like little children ^^

4) celavi – on top of the marina bay sands is undoubtedly on the most beautiful clubs in the country. we went there on saturday night and had such a great time. we bumped into another group of mumbai girls celebrating a bachelorette {us mumbaikars, we are EVERYwhere!} we also met a lot of interesting locals. it was one crazy night

^^ view from the club^^

^^ bathroom selfies^^

5) shopping at orchard road – singpaore has to be one of the best shopping destinations i’ve been too. orchard street has every thing. the super pricey to the not so expensive clothing stores. you name it, it’s there. i also loved the local brands and did most of my shopping there.

6) bao today – both saloni and i are “barely non-vegetarians”. we eat only chicken and v. few other dishes with other meat products {pepperoni pizza! yumm} so it was difficult to find good options at restaurants in singapore. we happened upon bao today while we were shopping at orchard street and ended up eating there twice after. the peanut baos, the crystal dumplings and the ramen noodles are amahzinnng.

date night

adi and i complete one year of being engaged (roka’d) today

we celebrated by going out for a nice quite meal at indigo deli.

indigo deli completes 10 years of it’s existence this week and have amazing new, different and fun menus everyday this week.

we had the chicken quiche and the sea salt rubbed chicken with mash potatoes on the side.

for desert we had our favorite – apple, cinnamon and blueberry steamed pudding with vanilla ice cream.

it was such a fun day. and the rains ALWAYS make everything so much more romantic and pretty.

this past one year with A has taught me a lot. i’ve grown up and matured quite a bit and i watched him grow up too. we have grown SO much closer.

he has changed so much over this past one year. adapted him self more to me and my life style (subconsciously, ofcourse) in small, tiny ways, and i have noticed and am ever SO grateful.

happy anniversary A! xoxo

loco chino

^^ now that is mumbai’s answer to the ‘burrito bowl’. i quite liked it.. it’s being served at loco chino which has several outlets throughout the city^^

^^ they serve chinese and mexican and have the same dimsum menu that was earlier served at buddha belly {so i’m guessing – same owners?} i really liked the dimsums and the burrito bowl both. and SO reasonable.^^

^^ that’s tanu taking {snapping? snap chatting?} a picture of me and our food^^

^^ and that’s me bliss fully ignorant of the snap chat in the making ^^

i’m SO glad this tiny place has opened up so close to home {a.k.a. pedder road} i went there for the first time last week and have been there twice after already……

byblos + mekong = i need to diet asap

last weekend was all about food.

i went to some great restaurants in mumbai. and i haven’t been to either before.

because i’m really into food. and why i haven’t been yet is beyond me!

last wednesday a few of us went to mekong at the palladium hotel. it’s most definitely one of my new favorites in the city.

we had the thai curry {red}, veg steamed buns, pad thai, tom yum soup and the thai papaya and peanut salad.

for desert we had the molten chocolate cake with ice cream.

everything was amazing. especially the deserts. we even asked for repeats!

IMG_20150317_181314^^ it was great catching up with friends on a weekday. everyone’s so caught up in their lives these days. with work. marriage and babies even! we have decided to make it a weekly ritual. here’s hoping we keep up to it! ^^

this weekend. we had saturday off {i feel like those saturdays never come!} so A and i decided to try out byblos.

it was his idea. and am i glad he suggested it? the place was perfect. it’s fun, different and casual. with great food!

we tried the hummus with chicken, kheema lamb bolognese and the grilled stuffed chicken.

ended the meal with beignets {kinda like donuts}  and cheesecake.

^^^ i love having saturdays off. the weekend seems so much more satisfying. and also i love spending time with A. specially after a good meal. let’s just say that food makes him very happy ;) ^^

we also tried out the wine fest at radio club this weekend. it had a great wine selection. though i wasn’t a fan of any of the wines i tasted. but then, i wouldn’t say i know much about wine..

^^ ended the night with these cuties at irish house. i love these girls and it’s ALWAYS a fun time with them around^^

how was your weekend?

happy tuesday!!

an early valentine’s day

when i told A that i was going to pondicherry on v day, he didn’t look too happy about it.

we may have even argued.

but honestly, i didn’t think if i actually were in the city, he would have even wanted to celebrate.

he’s not a very valentine’s day kinda person {and honestly it’s about time i stop being one too}

but i guess i was wrong

the night i was leaving, he surprised me at my place and took me to 212 {our favorite restaurant}

he even packed home food for dad! who was going to be eating home alone that night.

how did i get this lucky??

we took a trip to puducherry {formally known as pondicherry} this weekend

we were 6 girls. 2 of them who i’d never really met before.

i didn’t expect to have such a good time.

puducherry is a small city {more like a french colony} at about a 3 hour drive from chennai.

it’s beautiful and often i found myself thinking that i was walking in a small town in europe. definitely not india.

it has the cutest small restaurants /cafe’s {outdoor and indoor} each of which have a charm of their own.

we met so many friendly people and owners of these restaurants.

it also has great beaches. specially some of the lesser known ones.

the best part of the trip however was my companions. i had such a good time with the girls. getting to know them and just realizing how similar we all are. i know i say this often but it still surprises me every time i meet someone i’ve never met before and find myself having so much in common with them  and connecting so well with them.

and here’s our short vacation in pictures…

^^ us posing for pictures in our hotel lobby. we stayed at le royal park which was great and v reasonable, the only negative being that it was a ten minute rickshaw ride from the french quarter.

we were off to a restaurant called la maison rose

once we got there, we found the staff slightly rude and we did not end up getting a table, so we went on to another restaurant called le dupleix {which i cannot recommend enough! it was beautiful and the food was beautiful too, it deserves a post to itself}

^^ our first morning in puducherry, purva and i decided to explore the city while the others were still sleeping. we walked around aimlessly in the french colony/ white town district and happened upon all these beautiful places… ^^

^^ for breakfast we went to this super funky and relaxed rooftop cafe called  kasha ki aasha. we had the regular pancakes and the chocolate pancakes. we  also tried their bruschetta/tomato & cheese  sandwich. it was such a fun place and we ended up spending way to many hours lounging. they even let us play our own music on our speakers ^^

^^ we all agreed that villa shanti was one of our favorites. we went there for lunch. and it totally lived up to all the recommendations we had got from others. ambiance AND food wise. we ate indian. and had great cocktails. ^^

^^ one of the highlights of our 4 day vacation was when we happened upon a restaurant called disdis & co. the owner was this sweet lady who has a tiny boutique attached to the restaurant. we bought lots of things.

further, she recommended bodhi beach to us. she said it was one of the lesser explored beaches in the city and that we would love it. we spent almost the entire next day at the beach. ^^

^^^ that is cafe des arts. and i recommend …^^

^^ the chocolate crepes. does not the picture speak for itself??  the cafe is beautiful! and they have the cutest store attached to it.^^

^^ they even have a cycle rickshaw to pose on ;)^^

^^ and now that you’ve made it this far into the post… you do want to know about le club. the grilled chicken and mushrooms is to die for!! ^^

Haldiram + baby showers + march madness

last week i was in delhi for three days. for work. and it was COLD.

but i spent most of the days indoors. at the client’s office. it was a bummer that we didn’t get a chance to visit the city.

we did however get a chance to visit haldirams one night. we got done at 9 pm this one night and rushed back to make use of the early night ;)

i’d heard so much about haldirams from a few work colleagues and it was great to finally get to visit and try out the food.

we had the raj kachouri, black dal, makke ki roti and sarson ka saag (not pictured) and the chole bhature (not pictured).

^^ this meal alone may have made my delhi trip worth it^^

have you read this article about haldirams? it’s pretty cool.

also last weekend, we visited a baby shower.

my friend chandni is having a BABY. the first of all my friends to announce it.

it’s great and i can’t wait to have a kid amongst us. you do know about my crazy love for kids right?

but it’s also a tiny bit freaky. every day events take place that make me realise that i’m not as young as i’d like to be….

in other news, its march soon and i’ve noticed how things always get so tensed at work come year end {financial year end}

everyone’s SO edgy. and down each others throat. i’v never really understood it. and it’s not my most favorite energy to be around.

but the other day i read this article on a cup of jo {which also happens to be one of my favorite blogs} and it really inspired me.

it’s about women at work and advice and tips from few of the most successful women in their field.

go girl power!

happy monday

it’s been a long time.

i’ve been super irregular about updating this space and i am going to make an effort to improve.

it’s time i go back to  documenting all my favorite moments more often than i do. it’s important and it’s a part of my ‘being grateful’ resolution for this year.

January has been good – generally it’s my least favorite month of the year {isn’t it everyone’s?} – but this year it’s been good to me.

we’ve spent most of this month location shopping for the wedding {which by the way is one of the MOST stressful things i’ve done all my life} i wonder how come no one’s warned me about this before?

a few days ago Adi came over and cooked grilled chicken for me {i think he was making up for one of our fights;)}.

he marinated the chicken in basil, garlic, salt + pepper, mixed dry herbs, curd and olive oil. then after leaving it on for 30 – 40 mins he sauteed the chicken in a pan with some olive oil +mushrooms + garlic. covered it with the lid and let it cook for another 15 – 20 mins.

^^ marinated chicken minus the curd ^^

^^look at him taking his cooking so seriously^^

^^ i just watched with my glass of wine the whole time ;) – in my defense i DID offer to help but he’s just a tiny bit controlling in the kitchen^^

^^ and voila the finished product! – it tastes SO much better than it looks – i promise ^^

it was  just like the grilled chicken we order in restaurants. i love how much i learn about cooking being around him. he makes everything look so easy. new year resolution —> cook more often. it’s so much easier and cheaper than eating at a restaurant!

and now about the time i broke that resolution ;) the very next day…

jinal and i decided to try out this new bar we’d heard SO much about – the good wife.

it’s at the deutsche bank building at bandra kurla complex. which is SUCH a good building. i’m contemplating applying to some of the offices in the building for THAT reason alone {i kid, i kid!}

^^ we tried the potato and goat cheese gnocchi – which was REALLY good ^^

^^ and the green garlic rissoto – which is good if you like your food garlicky ^^

and now to put an end to this VERY long post  – i maybe almost completing my resolution of visiting at least 2 places i’ve never visited before every year  —- by february alone! so many exciting events coming up.

can’t wait to share all the pictures with you.

hope you have a great week.

new year’s eve

we went for dinner. to this cute little restaurant in worli.

had great food {he said it was one of his favorite meals ever} and cucumber maritinis.

after the meal we came home with two of my friends and played music on the i-pad and danced and laughed at each other.

it was sweet and SO much fun.

i may have underestimated ‘this way’ of celebrating all my life.

breakfast at zoe

my friend surabhi is in town. while she isn’t here, she’s busy studying business at the columbia business school in new york city.

we had a stay over at home {like old times} and stayed up late talking about all that we had been upto this past year. and all the new people we’d met and got to know {more her than I}

then we got up really early and went to cafe zoe for breakfast.

ate the sun-dried tomato pesto with poached egg on rye toast {SOO good}, scrambled eggs, the traditional liege waffle and the banana and nutella smoothie.

it was so much fun catching up with her and listening to all her B – School stories.

it was almost as if she’d never left.

i’ve missed her. and meeting her after all this time made me realise about how grateful i am to have such inspiring, positive and smart people like her in my life.

p.s. reading/ watching the news this past week has been disturbing.

it’s shocking how inhuman we as a race our capable of being. scary almost. how a few of us, who have reached the point of no return, are capable of causing such a great capacity of harm to the rest of our race.

i find myself feeling guilty at how little i did to help.

or how easy it is for us to get back to our routines right after. is there a way we could make a change?

that’s something i need to think about. something we all need to think about.
